The Travelling Canvas!

We’re not lazy. We didn’t forget about this project. We are just ridiculously, insanely busy. Also, half of us have been seriously sick (like hospital sick) in recent weeks. But that’s behind us, because I am here to save the day!

There are two parts to our project – the boxes of supplies we send to each other AND a single piece of art that we all work on. I volunteered to be the starting point for our travelling canvas this time.

This is just a simple 8×10 prestretched canvas. I was in a blue mood this day, so I selected a blue acrylic paint. I mixed a few shades and tints of it (aka, I mixed some black and some white with it) and just kinda… put some paint on there.

It felt too plain to me, so I looked around my craft closet and found … an old newspaper. I tore off a couple columns of dense type and stuck them in place, simply painting lightly over the papers. It’s pretty much impossible to read the words. If you’re interested, it was an article about a unit coming home from Afghanistan, in our local Fort Drum Mountaineer paper.

It is entirely coincidental that the canvas is Tardis Blue. Entirely coincidental.

I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that Marian has volunteered to take the canvas next! I am fervently trying to remember to wrap and send this, so she can do her part! I can’t wait to see what she’ll add!

(PS – We really are making our best efforts to get this together. Expect to see some finished-art posts from us soon!)

(PPS – I lost my login info for Flickr! Lol.)

February Supply Swap

Behold! I give unto thee a video blog of the package I received from April this month! I start it with an introduction to the project for unfamiliar Youtubers before I start opening the package itself. And don’t forget to watch the silly bloopers at the end, which someone will probably capture on one of my numerous derpy faces and distribute throughout the Internet as a meme!

This was my first time making a video blog. It’s harder than you would think! I ended up having to use my webcam, since I was having issues transferring data from my full camcorder to my computer.

Anyway, hope you love it!

Supply Swap 1.2

I received my box today and I’m so excited I couldn’t wait to blog!

It’s so pretty!!

I slit open the box and was greeted by a rainbow!

Marian didn’t skimp. The box was FULL.

Watercolors, stencils, fabric, and tissue paper!

Six colors of thread and seven of embroidery floss!

Four pots of glitter, a packet of tiny buttons, a box of seed beads, and a flower stamp!

Last but not least, a lovely brown yarn!

There is SO MUCH here, I hardly know where to begin! I better get at it if I plan to use everything. I really feel like a cheater – I got all this from Marian, but just wait till you see what I sent to April (hint: it was a much much smaller package).

Supply Swap 1.0 (February)

For our February (and first) supply swap I swapped with Elise. She did not make this easy on me. I’m going to have to do a lot of creative thinking to make this box of supplies into some amazing snark art worthy of the name. I did have an epiphany yesterday though and realize that I don’t have to make just one piece of art (do I?).. we never discussed this so I’m using my artistic license here. Hopefully I’m not overstepping my bounds. Without further ado I give you Box #1 in our February supply swap.

February supply swap - from Elise

Included in this swap were: a silver plate cup, a styrofoam block, 2 different kinds of buttons, some feathers, fabric, a pin and 2 strands of beads (pearls and gemstones). For more pictures – check out our Flickr Pool (there’s a link at the top of the blog). Wish me luck and Happy Snarking!

Name Drawing #1

I wrote all our names on a scrap of paper (it was one of those little subscription cards from a magazine, in case you’re interested lol). I had Jonathan draw them out for the swap.

This post is the inspiration for this part of our Epic Art Adventure. We are all meant to gather a group of art supplies and items, pack them into a small bottle (although a box would also be sufficient), and mail them to our person. We should decide on a date to mail them by, so we all get them around the same time. Take a picture of it before you mail it; I think it’ll be cool to put those pictures on here too!
When we receive our supplies, the challenge is to create some art with the contents, and then share it with the blog! It can be in any medium, but it should use all of the “ingredients.”
